Islam a religion of peace?

This statement saddens me because the truth does hurt and it is going to also shock my fellow Muslims however it will delight Islamaphobics and haters.

After spending years studying Islam, its Jurisprudence, Tafsir (interpretations) from many sources, the Hadith (the life and sayings of the prophet) and the Sunnah (the daily practice of the prophet) at leading Islamic Universities and having also studied the variations of the major schools of Islamic theology, I am going to clarify what I believe is the answer to the question ‘Is Islam a religion of Peace?’ well is it?

But first…

It took at least 10 years after 9/11 for Muslims in Britain to speak up against the use of terrorism to support the Islamic ideology. For a short period it seemed as if Muslims were in fact going to forget the conspiracy theories they entrap themselves into and fully support their fellow British citizens and their governments resolve to destroy this violent Islamic fundamentalism.

A few years on there was even an anti-terror document drafted and signed albeit for a bit of publicity for the self-acclaimed Muslim community leaders ‘who are they & why such a token gesture?’ was it worth the paper it was written on, did they really think anyone would fall for their public puffed up hypocritical oath? Were the Muslims taking note? I don’t think so.

Despite these few shows very public but not so much ‘outcry’ Muslims continue to sit on their hands, look the other way and keep tight lipped about fanatical Islamic faith based terrorism.

Behind closed doors the majority of the 2 million plus Muslims in Britain continue to chat privately among themselves agreeing with many aspects of Islam as practiced by the Islamic State/Daesh and Al Qaeda. At the same time thinking that anything else that remotely taints their faith is a lie quick to brush it aside as a Zionist and Western conspiracy against Islam.

99% of Muslims living in Britain truly believe that the west has an agenda to oppress their faith.

With them holding these views it is ridiculously obvious they preserve no loyalty to the country that has given them so much including something which no Islamic nation offers ‘freedom and fundamental human rights;

Why do they do this?

Because their religion, faith ideology tells them to. Yes my friends the holy Qu’ran the Prophets Sunnah and the Hadith tells them to. In fact every piece of Islamic literature agrees with the Islamic State ideology. Islam must come first, over and above your own family and children, over and above your own life, it must rule over every society and abolish every faith via any means, it’s called holy jihad or struggle and can be both peaceful and violent. Promoting Islam, establishing and living and dying in accordance with Shariah Law is the be all and the end all of a Muslims existence in this world.

When push comes to shove when their backs are against the wall and when they have to choose between a democratic multifaith British government fighting against the Islamic state for survival. Don’t count on their support because for them Islam will always come first and with it Shariah. Anything else would be an utter contempt for the holy Qu’ran God’s word and the prophets Sunnah.

Islam scriptures categorically state that Muslims cannot be friends of Christians and Jews or with any other faith and its follower’s whole heartedly except by a false tongue. Muslims lying to non-Muslims is permissible to help promote Islam and establish its roots in any way or form. Al-Bukhari recorded that Abu Ad-Darda’ a companion of th prophet said, “We smile in the face of some people although our hearts curse them.’ It openly and categorically considers any other faith and ideology as an enemy which must be destroyed and every non-Muslim as inferior who must be converted, over powered or killed.

Allah prohibited His believing servants from becoming supporters of the disbelievers, or to take them as comrades with whom they develop friendships, rather than the believers. Allah warned against such behavior when He said,

And whoever does that, will never be helped by Allah in any way) meaning, whoever commits this act that Allah has prohibited, then Allah will discard him. Similarly, Allah said,

O you who believe! Take not My enemies and your enemies as friends, showing affection towards them, until,

And whosoever of you does that, then indeed he has gone astray from the straight path.60:1. Allah said,

O you who believe! Take not for friends disbelievers instead of believers. Do you wish to offer Allah a manifest proof against yourselves. 4:144 and,

O you who believe! Take not the Jews and the Christians as friends, they are but friends of each other. And whoever befriends them, then surely, he is one of them.5:51.

Allah said, after mentioning the fact that the faithful believers gave their support to the faithful believers among the Muhajirin, Ansar and Bedouins,

And those who disbelieve are allies of one another, (and) if you do not behave the same, there will be Fitnah and oppression on the earth, and a great mischief and corruption. 8:73.

Allah said next,

unless you indeed fear a danger from them) meaning, except those believers who in some areas or times fear for their safety from the disbelievers. In this case, such believers are allowed to show friendship to the disbelievers outwardly, but never inwardly. For instance, Al-Bukhari recorded that Abu Ad-Darda’ said, “We smile in the face of some people although our hearts curse them.” Al-Bukhari said that Al-Hasan said, “The Tuqyah is allowed until the Day of Resurrection.” Allah said,

And Allah warns you against Himself. meaning, He warns you against His anger and the severe torment He prepared for those who give their support to His enemies, and those who have enmity with His friends,

Confusion and ambiguity reigns arguments become heated tempers flare every time this subject surfaces. Muslims insist that only their religion is the ‘religion of peace, the religion of harmony, unity and concord’, rival ideologies vehemently counter their claims. But in reality each and every true erudite and knowledgeable Muslim knows the answer and because the answer crosses a precarious and extremely dangerous divide he or she is afraid to broadcast it.

We Muslims read and recite the answer every time we read our holy scripture the Qu’ran and its interpretations known as the tafsir or when we study the Hadith (the life and sayings of the prophet) and Sunnah (The prophets daily practice). Yet, we are still keen and acute to sugar coat what we have learned because if we don’t, then we are afraid of being aligned as allies and sympathisers of the extremists.

When they argue about Islam being a religion of peace Muslims are very quick to quote the Qu’ran chapter 5 verse 32 albeit a diluted and edited snippet. ‘he who kills a person it would be as if he killed the whole of mankind’  really is that it all?  Of course not, missing from the quote is the bit in the middle which blows their belief out of the water … here it is: ‘Except for mischief/corruption done in the land’   so killing is actually permissible.  Corruption & mischief pretty self-explanatory but in Islam it is also interpreted as: someone who follows another faith or refuses to accept Islam.

Here are verses 32,33,34 in full:
32. On that account: We ordained for the Children of Israel that if any one slew a person – unless it be for murder or for spreading mischief in the land – it would be as if he slew the whole people: and if any one saved a life, it would be as if he saved the life of the whole people. Then although there came to them Our messengers with clear signs, yet, even after that, many of them continued to commit excesses in the land.
33. The punishment for those who wage war against Allah and His Messenger, and strive with might and main for mischief through the land is: execution, or crucifixion, or the cutting off of hands and feet from opposite sides, or exile from the land: that is their disgrace in this world, and a heavy punishment is theirs in the Hereafter;
34. Except for those who repent before they fall into your power: in that case, know that Allah is Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful.

Which part of the above verse quoted time and time again by Muslims tells you Islam is a religion of peace?

I have clearly learned and believe that Islam is NOT a religion of peace rather it’s an ideology in PURSUIT of peace. An enforceable ideology through various forms of Jihad or struggles including if need be war and violence or in other words ‘peace is its ultimate goal or its supreme and binding quest or objective.  Get it?

Despite my extensive research and studying I am yet to find a Muslim Scholar, Imam or expert to persuade me to think otherwise.

One cannot claim Islam as religion of peace unless you ignore the many challenging verses and chapters in the holy Qu’ran, the hadith and the prophets Sunnah. Clearly the enforcement of Qu’ranic laws is uppermost to Islam and its followers. There are no constraints on how they are enforced, violent enforcement is perfectly acceptable as we see in many Islamic states such as Saudi Arabia. The laws themselves are unconditional, unchangeable, and nonnegotiable so who are we kidding?

No: a religion of peace or in pursuit of peace doesn’t mean the same thing..

Ok I will explain:

There is an extended list of verses and chapters in the holy Qu’ran, a catalogue of sayings and quotes from the prophet Muhammad (saw) in the authentic and the weak Hadiths, there are numerous tafsirs.  All relating to the believer and why, it is his or her first and foremost duty to spread the Islamic faith and convert non-believers to the Islamic path.

It’s stated a Muslim must never stop these fundamental duties until Islam is supreme and reigns over all religions and mankind. Am I wrong?

It is even forbidden for Muslims to live side by side with Non Believer’s without a written treaty which holds supreme power over them and to receive some type of financial compensation (Jizya) securing their safety.  Am I wrong?

Then let’s look at the verses again chapter 5 verse 33 and 34.
33. The punishment for those who wage war against Allah and His Messenger, and strive with might and main for mischief through the land is: execution, or crucifixion, or the cutting off of hands and feet from opposite sides, or exile from the land: that is their disgrace in this world, and a heavy punishment is theirs in the Hereafter;
34. Except for those who repent before they fall into your power: in that case, know that Allah is Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful.

Tolerance does not come into play in Islam unless the non believer or sinner yields.

Tolerance? Only under the following terms and conditions.

A non Muslim must embrace Islam or accept a Muslim is superior to him or her.

If a non Muslim does not embrace Islam the he or she must pay a fee/tax (Jizya) guaranteeing them to live safely in the Muslim land.
If the above conditions are not met then the Muslim is entitled to banish the Non Muslim from the land and here’s the straw that breaks the camels back: KILL THEM IF THEY DON’T FOLLOW THE ABOVE RULES —   again Am I wrong?

The Prophet Muhammad is recorded several times to have said:

Fight against them (non-believers) until idolatry is no more and God’s religion reigns.

The prophet foretold that ‘Peace’ will only reign after one last incredible battle and after all other ideologies are destroyed and no longer exist.

When and how is this going to happen then?

Only through and after much more bloodshed, battles and wars….. So we can hark on about peace it means nothing until we Muslims go to war do as we are taught, do what we read in our holy books and do what we’re advised by our holy scripture and prophet (saw) enforce our religion.

According to Islam in all its literature and hadith the prophet Muhammad  prophesied that Christians and Jews will eventually accept Jesus as a Muslim Prophet and Messenger of God and that is when there will be an end to all bloodshed, oppression, antagonism or wars on earth. Do you see this happening in a peaceful manner?

Furthermore, he prophesied that there will be no need to collect Jizyah (taxes levied on Christians & Jews because Christianity, Judaism and all other ideologies other than the religion of God Islam will be annihilated and thus no longer exist. Do you think this will happen over a tea and cakes? I don’t think so!

During this new era every human will be affluent and there will be no further need for charity.  There will be peace justice, plenty, abundance; well-being, security, and brotherhood will prevail among humanity, and in a world in which people will experience love, self-sacrifice, tolerance, compassion, mercy, and loyalty. All this comes with the caveat that: THIS WILL ONLY BE when the Qu’rans moral teaching prevail and Islamic law reigns supreme a period before the day of judgement when the religion of God ‘Islam’ will righteously rule the earth.

However as I’ve already mentioned just before the foretold tranquility and peace there will be one more epic and final battle, the ultimate showdown between good and evil.

The Qu’ran and Prophet Muhammad foretell the reappearance of Jesus on earth. Prophet Muhammad has clearly prophesied about a number of events that will ensue just prior to the Day of Judgment.

Jesus will return and take up the sword to confront the Anti-Christ (known in Islam as the Dajjal, meaning the Deceiver who claims to be God) the Dajjal fraudulently deceives people into worshiping him. It is then that Jesus (the Messiah) descends from Heaven, to pursue and slay the Anti-Christ, and annihilate the ferocious and incredulous forces of Gog and Magog, and bring ultimate peace and brotherhood to the World.

After this defining event Jesus will perform Hajj (pilgrimage), marry, begets children, and die after living on Earth. His death will signal the beginning of the last days for humanity before the Day of Judgment.

Sorry it’s sad, but it’s another interpretation, Am I right, Am I wrong who’s to say? But I’m not prepared to enforce Islam. Am I still a Muslim then? do I have the right to still call myself a Muslim? yes I am, I do, because I believe in one god and his messenger, however  according to Islam it makes me a special kind of Muslim one who is worse than a non-believer A  ‘MUNAFIQ’ A  ‘‘HYPOCRITE’.

That’s it folks, Muslims like me, who do not partake in the Struggle the Jihad are still Muslims but a kind of Pic n Mix variety.

Tafsir (Arabic: Meaning: interpretation) is the Arabic word for exegesis, usually of the Qur’an. An author of tafsir is a mufassir. A Quranic tafsir will often explain intent or provide places and times, not contained in Quranic verses, as well as give restriction of meanings, or explanations for why verses seem contradictory. There are three main types of tafsir:

al-Tafsir bi al-Riwayah, based on the Quran and Sunnah;
al-Tafsir bi al-Duraya, based on ijtihad; “diligence” is an Islamic legal term that means “independent reasoning”
al-Tafsir bi al-Ishari, which explain hidden meanings based on esoteric knowledge.

  1. Seriously…..!!!

I hope and pray that you do realise that Islam at the time of the prophet Muhammad (ppuh) was spread through example and not violence.

Your article is good at pointing out how man (including you) twists Islamic scripture and Hadith to suit his needs.
Those who claim to be Muslim and carry out the ill conceived and devastating terrorist attacks must conform to the same thoughts you have on Islam.

My Islam the one I’ve been taught since I was a child is far removed from your interpretation and that of daesh or whatever those deranged idiots call themselves.

In Sha Allah you will realise that the best way to spread Islam is through peaceful practice of the religion rather than conflict.

    • i have also studied islam and i am too a muslim..i too was not told or taught the truth as you. read the blog and again my friend and the qu’ran then tell me which part i’ve quoted is false… we are both hypocrites ‘munafiq’ muslims because we disagree with the real islam as per the qu’ran and the sunnah may allah forgive us.

  2. I’m not quite sure where you learned that during the time of the prophet Islam was spread only through example, were there no battles, was there no looting, bounty and slaves? did the prophet and the sahabah’s not have concubines (sex slaves)? did the prophet not lead dozens of attacks as well as being attacked? were there no executions and beheadings ordered and carried out by the prophet his companions and army? are you in denial my friend.
